Job + Greg Linch = Publish2 this fall

Beginning this fall (after my Poynter fellowship and Dallas Morning News online internship), I will join the Publish2 team:

Joining Publish2: Ryan Sholin, Greg Linch and Howard Weaver

I am extremely excited that I will be part of such an innovative organization, which now also includes Ryan Sholin as director of news innovation and Howard Weaver as a member of the board of directors. Needless to say, that pair is a one-two punch of journalism awesomeness.

And, yes, this was not a traditional job application. I am honored to have been selected from a group of extremely talented journalists as part of the “I am the future of journalism” contest. As you may recall, I posted a link to my entry here in January (actual entry):

I plan to post more thoughts soon and would like to end by thanking Scott Karp, Tammi Marcoullier, Josh Korr and the rest of the Publish2 team.

Revenue Two Point Zero and School of Communication project in DC

I’ll be in Washington, D.C. for the next few days, courtesy the University of Miami School of Communication, so the blog will probably be quiet. I’ll be working on a couple video profiles of National Park Service employees with a fellow student (I did a similar project — but as an audio slideshow — last year at Everglades National Park).

Also, as luck would have it, I’ll be in town for this shindig on Saturday:

Revenue Two Point Zero

I’m not a big fan of the redesigning Craigslist idea, but it should be a great event. As always, I’ll be wearing my CoPress hat and looking out for any takeaways that could be useful for college media. Any thoughts in that realm will appear on the CoPress blog.

I may liveblog and/or livestream parts of the event. If I do, I’ll be sure give as much notice as I can.

PS. Yay for spring break! But it’s about a week too short.

I’ve been selected for the Poynter Fellowship for College Journalists 2009

I learned Tuesday by e-mail that I’ve been selected as one of 40 students to participate in the Poynter Fellowship for College Journalists this summer. It takes place May 17-29 at the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Fla.

poynter_mapI doubt that it needs to be said, but I’m extremely excited. As I wrote in my essay, I’m looking forward to not only learning from some of the most respected journalists in the field, but also to learn from my peers.

Oh, and did I mention, the tuition is free!

After a little research, I’ve found 10 others who have been accepted, nine of whom I found through Twitter search.

One of my tweeps is listed as alternate. We’ve never met, but I hope she has the opportunity to attend because I know she’s a very talented college journalist.

As for how this effects my summer plans, it doesn’t change anything. I will go to my internship at the Dallas Morning News, which I am also eagerly anticipating, soon after the fellowship.

In short, I proclaim this the summer of Greg!

PS. I can’t believe I’m graduating in a little more than two months. Where have the college years gone?

Your long wait for the Beyond Bootcamp lunch speaker videos has paid off!

Many thanks to Trevor Green, who operated the cameras from the control room as I managed the stream in the room. He also uploaded the footage to umiami.tv, the School of Communication‘s “YouTube.”
